RoamEO® vs Global Pet Finder® Global fence option – Cannot program yourself, boundary must be done in a circle, not custom to your own yard, unless your yard is round this is a bad option. You must call Global Pet Finder® and have them activate the boundary for you based on your best guess as to what size you want it to be. RoamEO® can set a boundary in any shape to custom fit your yard, and you may instantly pick the size and shape yourself without needing to call anything in. Alarms – Sent to your cell phone, PDA, or computer. There are always delays from the time the last known location is sent out and the time your device receives it. Unless the dog obediently remains in the last location you will constantly be playing catch-up. By the time you reach the destination the pet will have moved on. System only sends out updates every 3 minutes. (RoamEO® shows location, direction, and speed of travel in real time so you know exactly where the pet is at all times). Needs a “Walk Mode” – In order to take your pet for a walk outside you need to set the Global Pet Finder® unit into “Walk” mode “In 'walk mode' owners can walk and travel with their pet outside of fenced areas undisturbed. Should you and your pet become separated, tracking may be initialized remotely simply by dialing F-O-U-N-D from your cell phone or PDA.” With RoamEO® you can just take the handheld unit with you and you become the center of everything. If the dog gets away you can instantly track them down in real time without having to dial anything in and wait for the delayed updates. Huge Collar – The Global Pet Finder® collar is huge. RoamEO® is a much smaller and less obtrusive unit. Monthly Fees/lifetime cost of ownership. Their unit cost $289.99 + $34.99 activation fee for a total of $324.98 up front. RoamEO® cost $549.95 up front for a difference of $224.97. However, when you factor in the ongoing monthly service fees for Global Pet Finder® at their minimum of $17.99 month x 12 months = $215.88 (You must purchase a minimum of 1 year in advance) for a total cost of $540.86 only $9.09 less than the RoamEO®. If you get their best plan at $19.98 a month the cost is $564.74 or $14.79 more than the RoamEO®. So with one year of service fees it is break even and every year after that the Global Pet Finder® costs at least $215.88 per year more than the RoamEO®. Also keep in mind…AND THIS IS HUGE…these monthly packages have you paying for a pre-determined number of “Locates” a month. So with the basic package you get 3 locates a month, meaning your pet can run away and be found three times a month before they CHARGE YOU EXTRA FEES! You pay all this money for this unit and then they charge you extra money to find your pet!! You also must have a text message plan added to your cell phone to receive alerts at an additional charge. Many providers even charge you per text message. RoamEO® has no ongoing fees….find your pet as many times as you need…we charge you nothing! The RoamEO® is far and away the most affordable unit on the market. Coverage Maps/Cell Phone Usage: Global Pet Finder® is limited to cell tower coverage. If you have limited or no cell phone coverage you cannot use this product. Also having a system that is dependant on cell phone coverage is not a good idea. How many times have you had someone say they called you, yet the phone never rang? How many times has a text message taken 10 minutes to come through? How about a voice mail? And updates only come to your phone every 3 minutes…3 minutes can be a lifetime! The point is, if your dog is missing do you want to take the chance of having one of these systems fail you with delayed or non-existent updates of places where your dog was several minutes ago…but most likely is not there now? RoamEO® will work everywhere giving you real time live updates without delay. Water Resistant – Because their unit uses common rechargeable batteries their unit is only water resistant. $349.99 for something that can be damaged by water is steep. RoamEO
The RoamEO Location System is designed for pet owners to quickly and accurately locate their pets by using state-of-the art GPS technology. RoamEO displays the concise, easy to read information on a color LCD screen that allows you to locate your pet and shows you his current movements. Each RoamEO system consists of a portable, handheld receiver that displays information received from the GPS-enabled collar on your dog. The handheld device uses a color LCD to show the location, direction and velocity of your pet. RoamEO is designed to update readings every few seconds, giving you a continuous stream of real-time information. RoamEO uses an ordinary collar that is equipped with GPS technology. Just snap the collar on your dog, turn it on, and RoamEO is operational. The RoamEO handheld unit can track up to three dogs simultaneously. A collar is required for each dog. RoamEO has been designed so that you can set up a GPS Fence. RoamEO uses GPS coordinates that you establish by walking the perimeter of your desired fence, and commits them to memory. If your pet exits this perimeter, an audible alarm will sound. For example, you may wish to establish your property line as the perimeter for your pet. After setting up your fence, this information would be stored in your system and if your dog wanders off your property, the alarm will sound. Because this boundary is electronic, you can erase and create new ones as often as you like, giving you the flexibility for any situation or condition.
